What Is M-ATM

An ATM in Your Pocket

A small, portable card-swipe device that does everything a regular ATM does — right at your retail counter.

Micro-ATM (M-ATM) is a compact, battery-powered banking terminal certified by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It connects to your smartphone over Bluetooth or USB, and accepts any RuPay, Visa or MasterCard debit card — allowing customers to withdraw cash, check balance and view mini statements just like at a bank ATM.

While AEPS uses Aadhaar + fingerprint, M-ATM uses the traditional card + PIN method that most urban and salaried customers are already familiar with. This makes it the perfect complement to AEPS — together, they let your shop serve every kind of customer who walks in needing cash.

The device is portable enough to carry in a pocket, so an active agent can even take it to housing societies, weekly markets, fairs, or village haats — building a mobile cash-dispensing business on top of their regular shop income.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about offering Micro-ATM service at your shop.

What’s the difference between M-ATM and AEPS?
AEPS uses Aadhaar number + fingerprint biometric and works only when the customer’s Aadhaar is linked to their bank. M-ATM uses a debit card + PIN, just like a regular ATM, and works for any cardholder. Most successful Sarthi agents offer both — AEPS for rural / unbanked customers, M-ATM for urban / salaried customers.
What is the maximum withdrawal limit?
Per-transaction and daily withdrawal limits are governed by the customer’s card-issuing bank — typically up to ₹10,000 per transaction. Daily totals depend on the customer’s ATM withdrawal limit set by their bank.
Which cards does the M-ATM accept?
All major Indian and international debit card networks — RuPay, Visa, MasterCard and Maestro. The device accepts both magnetic-stripe and EMV chip cards.
How does cash settlement work?
For each successful M-ATM transaction, the customer’s account is debited and the equivalent amount is settled to your Sarthi-linked bank account on a T+1 basis (next working day). Your commission is credited to the agent wallet instantly.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes — the M-ATM connects to your smartphone, which uses 4G / Wi-Fi to authorize transactions through the partner bank. Even slow 2G / 3G networks work for most devices.
What if a transaction fails after card swipe?
If the customer’s card is debited but cash isn’t dispensed, the amount is automatically reversed by the partner bank, typically within 1 to 7 working days. You can also raise a complaint from your dashboard for faster resolution.
How much does the M-ATM device cost?
Device prices vary by brand and feature, but a basic NPCI-certified Micro-ATM typically costs between ₹2,500 and ₹5,500 as a one-time purchase. Sarthi can help you procure a verified device during onboarding at the best price.
